BLUECITY

BlueCity : off-grid green industry is growing on the water

A living, floating lab for sustainable industry hosted by GBX~ Gowanus Bay Terminal

As our climate changes, we need to understand how to live on water and with water. New design strategies and innovations will make it possible to develop cities that live in accord with the environment, and we’re beginning our grand experiment on 4.5 acres of the working waters in Red Hook, Brooklyn.

Around the world, our major cities are built by the water. As the water rises, cities must rise as well, and turn towards the water, not away from it. BlueCity is being cultivated as an industrial and commercial district in Red Hook, Brooklyn, but there are many locales around New York that would benefit from similar water-borne development to let us live and work on and with the water.
